Marketing Success: A Battle Of The Mind - Part 2
By: Larry Smith

In the first article we dealt with having a positive, authoritative mindset to meet with business success. Having a business owner mindset is crucial to meeting with success. The focus of this article on mindset has to do with being "Coachable".

There are many people who seem to have a real desire for change in their life but they are untrainable, or, they are so resistant to change, that they cannot be coached. I have witnessed this on many occasions in the past nine years as a customer service leader in our family business. It is not a matter of intelligence. Bright people who think they know everything, or, at least average intelligence individuals who refuse to follow a proven process of marketing success, bring chagrin to those who offer assistance as coaches. It is difficult not to be annoyed, or embarrassed, by repeated failures to follow through by these individuals. However, after so much disappointment, I have learned that continuing to spend time on these individuals is counter-productive and I must sever these relationships quickly. My time is too valuable to waste on the uncoachable crowd. Until these individuals can get rid of the "stinking thinking" that causes them to resist training processes, a true business owner mindset is impossible and consequentially, their possibility of business success is greatly diminished. I am sad to say that most uncoachables are just that! There are, however, many coachable people who are eager to learn and are willing to be submissive to a good leader or person of vision who is willing to guide them to success in the marketing world.

Coachable personalities are a delight to work with and the greatest challenge in working with them is not to rush the training process. They will quickly catch on to developing the right business thinking mindset and will be anxious to learn about having a niche market to work with and a proven marketing system to launch their products or services. Teaching them affiliate marketing is wise too. By having them sell products that they did not develop, opens an opportunity to teach product development, price, positioning and promotion. These are the four "P's" to successful marketing that every entreprenuer must master. It is exciting to watch students of marketing grow and develop skills in a manner that mentoring or guiding them brings as much joy as winning a championship in a major sport. Go Team Let's Win!
